Terms of Service
The rules for inviting and using Lumin.
Last updated: June 9, 2026
A good-faith note. These terms are written in plain language so they're easy to follow. They describe how Lumin is meant to be used and what you can expect from us. They are not formal legal advice and they don't replace Discord's own Terms of Service or any laws that apply to you.
Acceptance of terms
By inviting Lumin to a Discord server, using its commands, or signing in to the Lumin dashboard, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't invite the bot, remove it from your server, or stop using the dashboard.
Server administrators accept these terms on behalf of their server when they invite or configure Lumin. Individual members accept them when they interact with the bot's features.
Eligibility & Discord rules
To use Lumin you must meet Discord's own eligibility requirements, including the minimum age for your region (at least 13 in most places, higher in some). Using Lumin also requires that you follow:
- Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. Lumin runs on Discord and cannot be used to break Discord's rules.
- Applicable laws in your country and the country your server is operated from.
- Any server-specific rules set by the moderators of the servers you participate in.
If you lose access to Discord (for example, your account is suspended), your access to Lumin ends with it.
Server admin responsibility
If you invite or configure Lumin in a server, you are the responsible operator for how it's used there. That means you agree to:
- Configure features appropriately for your community, including moderation, logging, starboard, reaction roles, counting, temporary voice channels, birthdays, and anything else you enable.
- Inform your members in a reasonable way that Lumin is active in the server and that some features (like logging or starboard) may store message content. Linking to Lumin's Privacy Policy is a good way to do this.
- Only grant permissions you actually need and review the bot's role permissions periodically.
- Handle member requests about server-side data (for example, asking for logs to be cleared) in a fair and timely way.
- Comply with local laws that apply to your community, including privacy laws where relevant.
Acceptable use
Lumin is built for healthy Discord communities. You agree not to use Lumin, or allow others to use it, to:
- Break Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, or Developer Terms.
- Harass, threaten, dox, or harm other users, or coordinate raids or brigading against other servers.
- Distribute malware, phishing links, scams, or content that sexualises minors.
- Spam, mass-mention, automate abuse, or attempt to evade moderation tools and rate limits.
- Reverse engineer, probe, scrape, or attempt to disrupt Lumin's infrastructure, dashboard, or API beyond normal usage.
- Resell, sublicense, or rebrand Lumin or its features as your own service.
- Use Lumin to collect or infer personal data about users beyond what the configured features need to function.
Bot permissions & privacy
When you invite Lumin, Discord asks you to grant it certain permissions and gateway intents (including the Message Content Intent for features that need to read message text). You can choose which roles and channels Lumin has access to, and you can change or revoke these at any time in your server settings.
Lumin only uses these permissions to run the features your server has enabled. Details about what data is processed, why message content is accessed, how long things are kept, and how to request deletion live in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
If a feature stops working after you change Lumin's permissions, that's expected, re-grant the relevant permission or disable the feature from the dashboard.
Availability & no warranty
Lumin is provided as-is and as-available, free of charge. We work hard to keep it running smoothly, but we can't promise that:
- The bot or dashboard will always be online, fast, or free of bugs and errors.
- Every feature will keep working forever, features may be added, changed, paused, or removed as Lumin evolves or as Discord's API changes.
- Third-party services Lumin depends on (such as Discord itself, hosting providers, or the database) will always be available.
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Lumin disclaims all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Suspension, termination & removal
We may suspend, restrict, or block access to Lumin, for a single user, a single server, or globally, if we reasonably believe it's being used in a way that:
- Violates these Terms or the acceptable use rules above.
- Violates Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, or Developer Terms.
- Threatens the safety, security, or stability of Lumin, Discord, or other users.
- Is required by a valid legal request or by Discord's own enforcement actions.
You can also end your use of Lumin at any time by removing the bot from your server, disabling specific features in the dashboard, or logging out of the dashboard. Your controls & deletion in the Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data afterward.
Changes to these terms
These Terms may be updated over time as Lumin's features, hosting, or legal context change. When that happens, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be highlighted on the dashboard or announced in the support server when reasonably possible.
Continuing to use Lumin or the dashboard after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you don't, please remove the bot or stop using the dashboard.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Lumin and the people who maintain it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or community engagement, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the bot or dashboard.
Lumin is a free, community-oriented tool. You're responsible for how you configure it and for the actions taken in your server. If you operate a community that depends on uptime, please keep independent backups of important configuration and moderation records.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude liability that can't be excluded under the law that applies to you.
Contact & support
Questions about these Terms, reports of abuse, takedown requests, and general support all go through the official Lumin support server.
These Terms are provided in good faith to describe how Lumin should be used. They are not a substitute for legal advice.
