How Lumin handles your data
Last updated: June 9, 2026
Overview
Lumin is a Discord bot that provides moderation, logging, utilities, and fun features for the servers it has been invited to. This Privacy Policy explains what data Lumin processes, why it processes it, how long it is kept, and the controls available to server owners, moderators, and members.
By inviting Lumin to a server or using its commands, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please remove the bot from your server or stop using its features.
Data we collect
Lumin only collects the minimum data needed to operate the features a server has configured. This includes:
- Discord identifiers: server (guild) IDs, channel IDs, role IDs, message IDs, and user IDs needed to deliver bot features.
- Guild configuration: settings you save through the dashboard (for example: logging channels, starboard channel, reaction roles, join/leave messages, counting channel, temporary voice settings, birthday channel).
- Feature data: data produced by features you enable, such as starboard entries, reaction-role mappings, giveaway entries, counting progress, temporary-voice channel ownership, and birthdays you choose to register.
- Dashboard sign-in data: when you log in to the dashboard with Discord OAuth, Lumin receives a short-lived access token and basic profile info (Discord user ID, username, avatar, accent color) so it can show you the servers you can manage.
- Operational logs: technical logs (errors, rate limits, gateway events) used to keep the bot running. These are not used to profile users.
Lumin does not collect payment information, real names, email addresses, phone numbers, or precise location data.
Message content
Lumin uses Discord's Message Content Intent so it can read the text of messages where this is required to deliver a feature, for example: prefix commands, moderation/automod rules, counting, quotes, starboard, and message-related logging.
- Message content is processed only to provide configured bot features, moderation, and commands in the server where the message was sent.
- Message content is never sold, rented, or shared with data brokers.
- Message content is never used for advertising, marketing, or training third-party AI models.
- Message content is processed in memory and is not retained longer than needed to respond to the message, unless a server has explicitly configured a feature that needs to keep it (for example: message-edit/delete logging or starboard, which by their nature must store the message text).
- When message content is stored as part of a configured feature, it is stored only in that server's context and is removed when the underlying message, configuration, or storage entry is deleted in line with the retention rules below.
Storage & retention
Data is stored on infrastructure operated for Lumin (database and cache) and is segregated per Discord guild. Retention depends on the type of data:
- Guild configuration is kept for as long as the bot is in the server. If Lumin is removed from a server, its configuration may be retained for a short grace period so re-inviting the bot restores your setup, after which it is eligible for deletion.
- Feature data (starboard entries, reaction roles, giveaways, counting state, temporary voice channel state, birthdays, etc.) is kept while the feature is in use and removed when the related Discord object is deleted or the feature is disabled.
- Message content used for logging is retained only for as long as the configured logging feature requires and is eligible for deletion when the feature is disabled or a valid deletion request is processed.
- Cached Discord data (such as channel and role lists used by the dashboard) is stored with a short time-to-live and refreshed automatically.
- Dashboard sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies that reference server-side session data and expire automatically. Logging out clears the session cookie.
Your controls & deletion
You have several ways to control the data Lumin holds:
- Disable a feature from the dashboard to stop Lumin from collecting the related data.
- Delete a Discord object (message, channel, role) and the bot will remove or stop referencing the associated data on its next sync.
- Remove Lumin from your server (kick the bot) to stop all further data collection for that server.
- Request deletion of your data by contacting us using the details below. Server-scoped deletion requests must come from a server administrator.
- Log out of the dashboard at any time to end your session.
Security
Lumin takes reasonable measures to protect the data it processes, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/WSS) to Discord and to the dashboard, scoped database access, and limited operator access to production systems. No service can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, but security issues are taken seriously and addressed promptly when reported.
Children's privacy
Lumin is intended for use on Discord, which requires users to be at least 13 years old (or older in some regions). Lumin is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has interacted with Lumin, please contact us so the data can be removed.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated over time as Lumin's features change. When that happens, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be highlighted on the dashboard or in the support server when reasonably possible. Continued use of the bot after an update means you accept the revised policy.
Contact
Questions, concerns, or data-deletion requests can be sent through the official Lumin support server.
This policy is provided in good faith to describe how Lumin handles data. It is not a substitute for legal advice.
